OmniVision releases 64 MPixel image sensor for smartphone cameras

May 4, 2020
The new sensor offers features designed for low-light conditions.

The OV64C 64 MPixel image sensor has a 0.8 µm pixel size and is designed for smartphone cameras in a 1/1.7-inch optical format. The sensor integrates an on-chip 4-cell color filter array and hardware re-mosaic to provide 64 MPixel Bayer output in real time. Near-pixel binning outputs a 16 MPixel image with 1.6-micron equivalent for previews and still captures. The sensor also provides 2x digital crop zoom at 16 MPixel resolution and fast mode switch.

Autofocus accuracy is boosted with type-2, 2 x 2 microlens phase detection autofocus (ML-PDAF). Other features include 4-cell remosaic for full resolution Bayer, digital crop zoom, and CPHY interface to enable greater throughput using fewer pins.

Output formats include 64 MPixels at 15 fps, 8K video at 30 fps, 16 MPixel captures with 4-cell binning at 30 fps, 4K video at 60 fps and 4K video with EIS at 30 fps.
